Parents will be spending collectively over £3 billion on tech toys this holiday and an average of £243. According to uSwitch, the most popular tech gadget to be sought out will be tablets while video games will also be popular. Even young children will be seeking out electronic gadgets with the popular Hugging Elmo toy rising as a favorite according to another source.
The survey from uSwitch revealed that parents will be spending their money mostly on tech gifts with 16% of them prepared to spend £400 or more. Some parents believe they will spend even more next year on tech gadgets (36%). Tablets are estimated to gain the largest part of the holiday market with one in four parents (24%) planning to choose one for their child. Video games will be popular with 17% of parents noting them on their shopping list. The release of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will make both the consoles and the games popular purchases. Smart phones, digital cameras, e-readers and smartwatches are also on many parent’s lists.
Ernest Doku, a uSwitch spokesperson, remarked, “Many families are preparing for a tech-tastic Christmas this year, with many kids demanding the latest gadgets whatever their age. For many this will mean that the pressure is on to juggle Christmas wish lists with household budgets.
“However, despite some tablets costing upwards of £350, the advent of many cheaper versions – from high street retailers Argos and Tesco, as well as Google’s bargain priced Nexus tablet – may be the solution for parents looking to keep both their kids and their bank managers happy.”
